Our Program

School of Alternative Learning Settings (SALS)

Reclaiming Youth at Risk

Our education program has a strong focus on social and emotional development. Underpinned by the Circle of Courage philosophy.

We provide a tailored social and emotional learning program alongside project-based learning to build students strengths within the 4 quadrants of belonging, independence, mastery and generosity.

We:

  • Assist students to understand themselves and their choices.
  • Provide self-regulation tools for them to draw on when faced with conflict.
  • Improve their interpersonal relationships and re-establish positive engagement.
  • Provide opportunities to practice self-regulation skills (e.g. visualisation, role-play, excursions).
  • Provide a learning environment that is understanding of and responsive to the impacts of trauma.
  • We aim to create an environment that is safe and culturally responsive.

Social and Emotional Learning

We provide a tailored Social and Emotional Learning program alongside Project based learning to build students strengths within the 4 quadrants of belonging, independence, mastery and generosity.

Our school delivers a unique Social and Emotional Learning program that is central to how we engage and support studentsThe program is grounded in the Reclaiming Youth at Risk philosophy and aligned with the Circle of Courage framework. This underpins the way we engage with students through our Social and Emotional program, which emphasises the development of resiliency, interpersonal skills, self-regulation, and emotional intelligence as essential elements for supporting and fostering successful outcomes.

By centring on students’ strengths and areas of growth, we encourage students to build meaningful relationships with adults and peersdevelop their capacity in taking responsibility for their decisions/actions/behaviour and their impact on others, and engage in activities and experiences that foster the development of empathy for self and others.

Project Based Learning

In addition to our Social and Emotional Learning program, students work with staff to design high intereste based projects that are linked to the WA curriculum and targeted at the development of 21st century skills of collaboration, complex communication, self directed learning, critical thinking and creativity.
